\nwhen Mom gave birth alone.<\/span>
\nA paradox blossoming between war-torn countries, I arrived, unexpectedly,<\/span>
\nto a most familiar unholy matrimony.<\/span>
\nFar from the border patrol agent whose gutted eyes are filled with remand and apathy.<\/span>
\nMaybe that is how Dad returns, even when his bags are packed for the airport.<\/span>
\nNow Mom is cutting mangos in the kitchen for our mouths that are craving<\/span>
\nbut, her body is aching<\/span>
\nin the dresser, searching for the shadow of his belongings.<\/span>
\nShe crumbles and unfolds the passport that stumbles out, she tucks it under<\/span>
\nthe loose floorboard, and I am stalling.<\/span>
\nMom\u2019s cries swell and pelts the walls with a curse that shudders.<\/span>
